Our next and last home basketball game is on April 30th.
President Obama wants all our kids to be physically active 60 minutes every day. My gym class is hopefully providing the kids with motivation to do just that. I meet with most classes two times a week and encourage the kids to be active. Gym class begins with a warm up exercise, continues with skill instruction and game play, and concludes with a cool down. Its a lot of fun.
This month our unit of study is basketball. The students are learning how to dribble, shoot, pass, and play defense. Towards the end of the month we will begin to play actual games. Something really exciting has happened in gym. Due to the generosity of several parents, I was able to get special "Hoops" for our younger students. These special hoops hang down much lower and enable even the youngest child to enjoy basketball. They make gym class really exciting. All grades can now experience learning how to play basketball.
